This is a HONDA defect. Our car stalled several times because battery is dying because of some circuit drain. Dealer is saying Power train warranty does not cover it. No mechanic can fix it because it is a HONDA problem. Please issue a recall and please fix it under the power train warranty (This is a brand new car bought in 2015)

Random starting began about Aug. 1, 2019. First battery failure at approx. 30 months. Honda closed, had to have car as x/country trip was to start next am which was a Sunday and Auto Zone confirmed batt was bad by testing and doing load testing of starter and checking charging. Declared by Auto Zone as another poor Honda battery. Starting failures began this month 8-2019 and battery was starting to cause slow, not just random starting. Again replaced battery, however decided to check this website after wife {her car} was left with starting issue. Found this to be a problem and hope to find out if any one has the fix as this repair is on my nickel and I will not got back to Honda.

Let me start off by saying that I LOVED my Honda CRV EX. I'm in my mid 40's. I've had my share of owning different models. Honda CRV EX was my absolute favorite! I bought my CRV in 2015 with the extended 10yr warranty. In 2018 my car started having battery issues. I live in MN. At first I thought maybe it was attributed to the cold weather, granted it happened in early November... by MN standards, it's not even that cold, yet. I had my car jump started, and it drove just fine for a few weeks. Then it died again. Keep in mind I park my car in the garage and I work in a building with a garage.
I called the dealership about my battery issue and questioned why my battery is dead already only after having the car for 3years. The Managers comment was that they don't make batteries like they used to. He can schedule me for a new battery replacement..... I eventually got my battery replaced. Again, it drove fine for a few weeks then the same problem started again. My husband and I ran some errands. Came home and parked my car in the driveway since we had to run back out within 10mins to pick up our son from school. We got in the car and it wouldn't start! We had to leave the car parked in the middle of our driveway and pull his car out of the garage, and maneuver around my dead car!
My husband finally bought me a travel battery charger pack from Costco so I wouldn't get stranded. The battery charger pack was awesome! I was fine with charging my battery every now and then.... I've gotten good at connecting the chargers to my dead car battery.... then another issue started and it really freaked me out. While driving home, I have been driving for about 20mins, I stopped at a red light. Within seconds of stopping at the red light, all the lights on my dashboard flickered on and off. My wheel got really hard and wouldn't let me turn left. I eventually got it moving and pulled into my driveway. I turned the engine off, waited a few seconds, turned it back on and dead! I used my handy battery charger pack and was able to get the battery going. I drove around the block and kept an eye on my dashboard. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. A few days later, while driving my car the same thing happened twice! Now this really freaked me out BIG time.
I called the dealership and they said I can bring my car in for a $200 diagnostic but it's not guaranteed they'll find the issue. I was so upset at their lack of concern. I always take my car to the dealership for all the routine services and everything else in between. I've even asked them to check the battery on multiple occasions when I had brought my car in for service. Every time, I've been told my battery is good.
As much as I LOVED my Honda CRV EX. I was tired of paying to get it fixed, and I was over with being stressed about the performance of the car and my safety. Honda obviously doesn't care about their customers satisfaction or the safety of their Brand. I only had the car for 4years! And it started having issues within 3years! Even with the extended 10year warranty, they couldn't guarantee what would be covered under the warranty until they know exactly what is wrong with the car. Until then, I would pay for the diagnostic and everything else out of pocket in order to pin point the issue.

Purchased Honda Certified 2015 CR-V with ca. 33,000 miles. Twelve weeks later the battery dies. I get a jump from AAA, and that guy tells me I need a new battery, and to beware that by the time I drive this to the dealer, the battery will likely be recharged and they will not agree. He was right about that; the dealership was not going to replace the battery that day. (Sidebar: I am not sure the AAA guy could correctly diagnose the battery, but that is not to say he was wrong.)
So, I drive around for a day or so, then on the morning of the second day, the battery is again dead. After another AAA jump start, I take this to my mechanic who diagnoses a bad alternator, but he tells me these kinds of problems are often intermittent. I have the extended warranty package on this vehicle, so I want the dealer to make the repairs, which will be covered, but, sure enough, when I take the vehicle to be serviced, they cannot find the problem.
I think I am stuck with a bad/intermittent alternator until this thing gives up the ghost. I hope that my vehicle's entire electrical system is not kaput by the time that happens. On the other hand, reading through these entries here makes me wonder if there is not a larger electrical problem with 2015 CR-Vs and/or Hondas in general. Either way, I am not as happy as I was a few months ago when I was driving my 'new' CR-V off the lot.

Within just a month, battery died 8X. In all cases I can jump start the car with no issues. At end of the day or the following morning, if you are lucky then there is no need for a jump start. I had the battery checked twice. One at Autozone and the other at an express change oil service center. Both resulted battery is good. Yesterday I bring my car at a local Honda and today I was told battery is bad. I have to pay for the battery since it already passed the warranty period. I am hoping it is just a battery problem and not some computer or electrical issue. Will update if battery resolve my issue. There is no recall yet about this issue even though I searched online and found a lot of similar cases. So a big thumbs down to Honda. I'm sure Honda will not be on my consideration for my next vehicle upgrade.

My 2015 Honda CR-V has gone through 3 dead batteries now, all OEM and replaced for free since the mileage was under 35k. Now I just crossed that mark and can tell a slight delay between pressing start and the vehicle responding. I had a great experience with my 2008 Honda Civic, but this car is ruining it for me and I'm determined to go with a different make next time. The CVT also makes the car vibrate noticeably while in gear and stopped at intersections. Lesson learned. I sure hope that my next (aftermarket) battery fixes this issue, but I'm fairly sure it's an electrical problem tied to the system and will be a headache for life.

2 weeks back when over 100 miles from my dealer I went to start my 2015 CRV and the engine struggled but did end up starting - however, had 4 check lights come on -- powersteering, TPMS, check engine, and VSA. Let it run for a bit, turned it off - let it sit for 20 minutes and restarted it with no problem starting BUT all 4 check lights still on. Being that it was 8pm - none of the service shops at dealers were open, so I slept on it and called in the morning. When I turned on the car in the morning - no problem starting and no check lights. Took it to a local dealer anyway to check it out and lucky for me the same issue occurred when in the shop.
They were able to diagnose it as Service Bulletin 16-011 - which is corrosion of the harness and wiring between the battery and the sensors. According to that dealer, due to the corrosion - it is a drain on the battery and ends up being diagnosed as a battery issue when in fact it is not. Since I was not from the area and wanted to be home prior to a snowstorm, they juiced up my battery and told me to drive straight to my dealer and provide them all the info they gave me. Once with my dealer, they acknowledged and agreed on the service bulletin fix - they also replaced my starter which probably had some issues after struggling with the battery related issues.
In case this happens to your car, ask the dealer to look into Service Bulletin 16-011.

Battery died again. This is the second time for my Honda CRV '15 EX. This time the guy who came to jump it said most of his dead battery calls were from......Hondas! What a shocker! He said the battery isn't the problem after testing it. It's their system. It sucks! He at least confirmed it was a Honda issue not a battery issue. Honda of course said the battery was working fine. I'm starting to think I need to get a different car :(

I own a 2015 CRV with 36,000 which I purchased new. I have dead battery issues. When I push the button to start it the lights all flicker and it doesn't start. I have had this happen approximately 8 times. Once it happened in my driveway after the car sat overnight. All of the other times it happened after I had been driving the car, stopped for a few minutes, and then it wouldn't start. 3 of these times it occurred after I had been driving at least a half hour. It happened 3 times when I stopped to get gas. It has been to the dealer where I purchased it and each time I've been told that they did a draw test and recharged the battery but couldn't find anything wrong.

This is the second time this has happened to me, go to the start my car and the battery is dead. The first time I just brought a new battery. This time I refused, especially since my car is still under warranty. I have been buying Honda since 1995 and I have never had such issues. I was told today the newer cars use more juice, well I don't expect to buy a new car every year that's just CRAZY. I am no longer loyal to Honda after this...GRRRRRR

I'm leaving the store this morning around 8:10am, I get in my car and it won't start!! My headlights automatically turn off if I forget to do it. But, I didn't even have them on. I call Honda Care Roadside Assistance. Then woman on the phone,t I could barely understand what she was saying due to her lack of pronunciation. It was SO bad! Then, she tells me it'll take up to an hour for a tow company to come jump my car. AN HOUR?! JUST FOR A JUMPSTART?! The town they are coming from is 12 minutes away. How does that even add up to an hour?! Anyway, I had rolled my window down cause I had just got off work and was a little warm from busting my a** and just being worked up in general from this unforeseen dilemma. I wait and wait and wait. An hour goes by... Nobody shows up. I call the tow company and they say that the serviceman is on his way and he should be here any minute. 30 more minutes goes by..... Nobody shows up! I call a friend to come jumpstart my car and he comes within 5 minutes, pops my hood and hooks up the jumper cables... Then guess who finally decides to show up... Too late buddy! He just said, 'It took a while cause there were technical difficulties. Looks like you got it taken care of though. Glad everything is okay.' Then gets back in his truck. Lazy a**!!
This isn't even the first time this has happened. This has happened at least 3 times this year. Which is just ridiculous considering I bought my car brand new with only 12 miles on it in 2015. Only 2 years ago.
I wish I would've known about this site when I bought my car!

I am reading of all the battery problems with the CRV. I have gone through 4 batteries in 5 months. Each time the dealer tells me it was a bad batch of batteries. The old ones are always damages so bad they can not be recharged. The car checks out fine on all of tests. So what is the problem and what is the solution? At this point I do not trust the car to go on vacation. Any ideas?

About a year after buying a new 2015 Honda CR-V the battery went dead and I had to jump it.At the time I thought it was because the doors were all open and some accessories might have been connected while I cleaned and detailed the inside. No issues for a while, but I purchased a ANKER battery jumper, heaving learned my lesson.
This year the cars has not started properly several times. I am not going to say the battery was dead, because the volt meter shows 12.5 volts one day and 10.0 volts the next with NO USE. I drove 400 miles to begin a vacation in a wild and remote location and the car would not start after the last gas stop. No parasitic drain here. The engine ran for seven hours. And would not start. I canceled the vacation rather than risk being stranded in a remote location at the recommendation of the dealer. I returned home immediately - another seven hours back to home.
The next day the dealer diagnosed NO PROBLEM after a free battery test and sent me on my way. A week later the car would not start.I jumped it over and over for a week and returned for a $60 diagnostic service. I was told the battery needed to be replaced and they were going to use an OEM Honda product. I refused saying the original Honda product failed after only two years and the car now has an OPTIMA YELLOW TOP premium battery with a lifetime guarantee.
I will be returning the 'old' OEM battery that came out of the car... but I was curious to see that the battery measured 12.5 volts. Not wanting to part with any EVIDENCE I will trickle charge the battery to full charge and see what happens.
In any case the dealer will see me again with the old battery - at which point I make ask for my $60 diagnostic fee back since there was nothing wrong with the battery they claim was the problem.
I'm waiting for that familiar CLICK - CLICK - CLICK when starting. My Honda CR-V does NOT charge properly in some instances and will NOT discharge (start the car) in other instances. There is much more to this story and the Subaru Forester is looking better all the time. Toyota RAV 4... maybe?

This is now the 3rd time that we have had this happen. Went out to start car in the evening after it had sat most of the day and it would not start. We pulled into the Hobby Lobby parking lot by the door. My husband turned off the car was waiting for me about 10 minutes. He got out walked from the driver's door to the back seat door behind the passenger to put out grand daughter back in her seat and came back to the driver's seat and tried to start the car and it did not start. Lights flashed on the dashboard and you could hear click, click where the engine was trying to start, but could never turn over. Waited for 45 minutes for tow truck to jump car. Then took car to local Honda dealership. They looked it over the next morning and could find nothing wrong with it. That was on Friday.
On Sunday, my husband went to charge his cell phone in the car and found that the cell phone charger plug was melted inside the charger station of the car. Called dealership a few weeks later to let them know what we found as they charged us $83 to run tests and they said nothing was wrong. After that was told that they had problems with the equipment used to check batteries and the electrical system and had to send their equipment to Chicago to be fixed. Was told to check back with the dealership in a few weeks and they could re-run their tests.

2017 Honda CR-V
This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Honda dealer.
CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.
Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L 'Earth Dreams' engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a 'product update' in Canada.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

Battery just died. Charged it for hours, started, died again later that day. Had AAA test, electrical system fine, battery at 140 CCA. Bought their 3/6 year battery, as it’s my wife’s car, so she’s now got security of their warranty. $127. Major pain in the ass getting all the trouble codes and messages to disappear from dashboard, although there’s no help in the manual. Internet had the answer, just go for a drive, but in the interim driving with multiple systems reporting problems! Pretty cheap damn battery, maybe 20 months since car new.

New vehicle and battery has gone dead four times this past winter after vehicle went unused for two days. Talked to Honda canada about the problem not being the battery but a parasitic draw from the electrical system. They tried to tell me that we had a colder than usual winter in canada this year. I could not help but laugh at that statement when no diagnostic was even performed to make any type of assessment of the issue and I asked if that were true, why are people who live in warm climates also experiencing the same problem after their vehicles are sitting unused for 2-3 days? We still have no fix for this issue or the oil dilution with gas problem.

I got my car in Feb 2017 and after 8 months we start seeing this issue when we went to a few days trip and we found we could not start up the car without jumping. Will service bulletin 17-032 apply to LX? thanks
Second time happened after 2 days without driving, we took the car to the service, they check battery, alternator and ODBII (I don't know why they need to check ODBII) and told me everything is good, nothing they can help.
Third time happened again after 2 days without driving. The manager told me Honda has small battery so she asked to change a bigger battery for myself, she said small batter won't hold the power that long! I cannot believe Honda makes a car with only two days of power! My phone can hold more than 2 days without using it! They asked me to leave the car there and let it dies by itself. I don't understand this! How can you test circuit without power?! which makes no sense to me at all or for anyone who has little knowledge about electricity. Moreover, they cannot provide me a car. They asked me to contact American Honda. However, American Honda said nothing they can help!
Fourth time happened again after 15 hours without driving. We took the car in, and they could not start it either. so they check the battery, parasitic test and everything come back good. Therefore, they said nothing they can help and there is no recall on my car. However the problem is still there. I asked them how to prevent it. Again, they said I need to leave the car there for 3 days till it die. It dies in front of them already, I don't understand why they need to wait for 3 days again! They said this is required by American Honda and they cannot give me a car to drive either!

This vehicle is under 10 months old!!! Why is it having issues. I tried having it jumped and nothing. Completely black screens. When the Honda Service tow arrived, they were able to get the car started. I have had different lights flash such as brake problem and cruise control issues. But they were gone quickly.
I now learn that 2017 CRV's are known for this issue and nothing has been done to correct this? If my brakes stop working when I am on the highway that would be VERY BAD!

After replacing the battery three times and getting only 'We don't know' from dealer and 'Sorry you are having battery problems' from Honda, I decided to get rid of it. This was necessary because my wife (it was her car) refused to drive it due to being stranded three times. The electrical system seemed to drain the battery over a 3-to 5 week time period. Making the problem more annoying the door locks were set on Auto after leaving the car. So you could not open the doors until battery was boosted. Honda refused to recognize the problem and only when I started 'Lemon Law' activities did I get an offer to replace the vehicle. I hope the dealer sent the car out of state to sell, and I hope whoever got it has dumped it already.

New 2017 delivered 8/1/17. Dead battery 12/2017, jump start was fine. 2/17/2017 dead battery, would take a charge, jump started and brought to dealer. Dealership ran diagnostic and found no issues, was dismissed as owner/ driver error. Was told car must be driven every day to recharge. Not my first car, that is ridiculous. Isn't that a Tesla issue? Again after not driving the car from Friday to a Monday, 3/18/2017, had to jump start after car was parked 48 hrs earlier in the garage. Went to work and drove to dealership after end of work day, left with dealership to investigate. FINALLY, tech reportedly found there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) informing there is a parasitic voltage draw and a software update was needed. Picked up car from dealership 3/20/18 after work with the news. Lets see if this fixes the issue of power draining.

car won't start and all locks up. tow driver jumped
My wife returned from the store and unloaded groceries. When she got into the car, it would not start and the information center said there was a brake problem. There was not. Called Honda Tow. After waiting 3 hours, the tow driver showed up and jump the battery. Worse tow service I have ever had. My vehicle insurance would have been much better. The tow driver said not a problem, all is well. The new battery was dead. He jumped it and we charged the battery. Four hours later tried to use the car. Would not start. Call Honda Tow. They said tough. Since it is the New Years Week End, the only option was another jump or tow to the dealer. We are without a vehicle. Paid $31,000 for the car, drove it 5 months and now with 3500 miles, I cannot drive our new car. Fortunately, we also have a 2017 Chrysler. We paid $63,000 for it. Hope it works while we wait for Honda. This is not a battery problem. It has to be a computer or software problem, but who knows what Honda will say or do. It is not on the recall list for this kind of problem, but is for gas tank problems. Wonderful. Why buy a new car?????

Wife’s car is driven infrequently, so when battery is dead, we thought it was from non-use. Our fault. However the battery is dead after sitting in garage for 3 days. I am taking car to selling dealer tomorrow and asking them about Service Bulletin 17-032 — whatever that is. This will be my second visit about this problem. The battery is dead almost every time we use the car now. We purchased this CRV on February 23, 2017. We have bought Hondas since 1973 and never had this problem with any other cars. Anybody know for certain what is going on? Dealer previously said the battery checked out good.
Update from Nov 20, 2017: Dealer seems to have fixed the problem using Service Bulletin 17-032 and my VIN. Stopped at dealer service entrance and explained my problem. When dealer tried to move the vehicle for service, they had to jump it again. Dealer replaced battery and 'updated' software per the SB. No problems since. Took approximately 2+ hours but we are very pleased to get this fixed. Service writer said he was not aware of this 'known' issue with 2017 CR-Vs but his techs were fully aware and made repairs per warranty.

New car should not have this problem and Honda should have a fix. Definitely afraid to get struck somewhere. Honda helpline is a waste of time.

problem #1CR-V EX AWD 1.5L V4
- CVT transmission
- 496 miles
Left town for four days; 2017 CR-V EX AWD (odometer 496 miles) was in parking garage. Upon return, the car did not start! Jumped the battery and took car to dealer. Per dealer testing, battery failed performance test (0 out of 410 CCA, test code 14P2J-MHL1L) and the dealer replaced the battery free of charge.
Other 2017 CR-V owners (EX trim or higher) are describing the same issue (http://www.crvownersclub.com/forums/137-2017-present-official-specs-features-etc-gen-5/136138-dead-battery.html). Of note, I always engage the parking brake before turning the engine off, so contrary to Honda's statement to service reps, I don't think the parking brake is causing a parasitic draw in my particular scenario. Will keep an eye out to see if anything else (security system, perhaps?) is causing a parasitic draw on the battery...
